Moving, Teething, Colds, and Sleeplessness

It has been a very busy week.

Saturday we moved.  I'll admit this place is a little small, but I like it.  I'm finally forced to get rid of stuff that I should have said goodbye to a long time ago.  Like the fifteen purses that I hoarded....and the twenty pairs of flip flops.  Josh hates this though.  I made a deal with him that we can get a new TV for our room if he lets me get rid of stuff.  Of course I'll ask his opinion but I get the final say.  But I've only gotten rid of two things of his, an old TV stand and a pair of corduroy pants that I've told him to get rid of for a while.  That being said, I still have a lot to go through.  Unpacking has been very, very slow.

Why so slow?  Because the day we moved Elli was an angel.  She slept almost all day except to eat every three hours.....then she decided to stay up most of the night.  Leaving Josh and I with less than two hours of sleep.  This week has been rough because she keeps having trouble at night.  She sleeps, but she needs to eat every hour, then be rocked.  During the day she is awake, has 3-4 1-2 hour naps, and eats every 2-3 hours.  PERFECT!  Just not so much at night.  Oh well.

As for Michael, he had a rough day on Saturday.  I took the plunge and stuck my fingers in his mouth to feel his two bottom molars coming in.  Sunday he woke up coughing with a runny nose. He's still coughing, but I can't tell what's causing it, the cold or extra drool going down his throat. Either way he's been very needy.

So there are still boxes lying around everywhere.  It's still a minefield in the middle of the night.  Hopefully that goes away before this weekend!

Nope, no pictures.  I have no idea where the camera is.

Michael's here to say....

Can you guess??

No!  We are not sending him away.  And no, we're not trying to say that he showed up in a box on the doorstep.  We are moving....again.

We found a place in North Salt Lake and we are moving in two weeks.

We've moved a lot in the short 2 1/2 years we've been married.  This will be our fifth move (sixth if you count when Josh moved into my parents house with me our first month of marriage before we headed up to Logan).  As you can imagine I've got packing down to a science.  I know exactly what to put in each box, how to fit all of our clothes into the back seat of one car, and the best way to move our electronics.  Here are a few things I've learned:

  • Tv's do best in the back seat of a car.  Throw a bunch of clothes underneath it and it will ride great.
  • Dvd players, Wii's, etc. do great packed in luggage.  Luggage is padded more than boxes.  Plus, you don't have to check that the electronics box wasn't swiped by someone.
  • Pack underwear in a duffle bag....just do it.  It's embarrassing if you don't
  • Empty all drawers into boxes, you don't want to lose anything
  • Use all towels and blankets between furniture
  • Save newspaper for 2-4 weeks before your move and stuff glasses, wrap plates, and cover all things fragile with it.  Make sure you re-wash all dishes when you unpack because you will taste something funky if you don't.
  • Think about what is in the fridge.  You can plan to eat up what's in the fridge prior to moving, but remember all of the condiments sitting in there.  It might be a good time to throw away the year old bottle of ranch dressing, but it can also be a waste if you don't make cooler space for it.
  • Pack toilet paper last.  And maybe some soap.  You never know if you or someone moving you will need to hit the bathroom as soon as you get to your new place.
  • Order the thank you pizza before you start unpacking.  If it's early it will give people more incentive to move everything in faster.
Most of these are probably common knowledge, but maybe there is some hidden gem among them.

We are excited to move again.  We will really miss this ward.  It took a while for them to warm up to us (having cute babies helps in every ward) but it has been fun to meet some of these people.  When we moved we thought this would be a more permanent place, but there is a lot of pressure on us to move.  So we are packing up and shipping out!

A few things about us

So I really don't talk about Josh and I that much on here...I prefer to make this about the cute little guy.  I figure an update every 3-ish months is sufficient.  So here goes!

  • Josh and I went up to Flaming Gorge with my family a couple of weeks ago.  That's where we took the adorable Magic Mike pictures.  I've gone almost every year for my whole life for 1-2 weeks a summer.  Josh loves it up there as much as I do and we plan to continue the tradition.  At one point my whole family was up there.  Josh's dad even joined us for a few days.  We spend the days on the boat wakeboarding and wakesurfing, swimming and cliff jumping when it's too hot, watching Josh and my brothers almost kill each other having tube wars, and chasing little kids around.  At nights we eat some of the best dutch oven meals ever!

Josh is pretty good at wakesurfing
  • We are moving...we just don't have an exact day.  Josh's grandparents are leaving for the MTC on the 13th, but they will be coming home at night for 1-3 weeks.  We want to get settled before school starts, but we haven't decided whether to move right before they go to the MTC or after they leave.  Anyways we don't have too much moving to do besides Michael's things.  Plus I've become an expert at moving quickly at this point.
  • Speaking of school...I believe we start on the 20th.  This will be a busy semester for both of us, but we need to get some stuff done before this new baby comes.  Thankfully Josh's work is very flexible and I have some amazing family members that are willing to watch Michael!
  • And speaking of the baby...I went to the doctor last week (finally!).  The baby is healthy and still due Feb 1st.  My doctor thought there might be some discrepancy on the due date since I was recently pregnant, but it was exactly what I thought.
  • I know I said this was about us...but this concerns me!  I took Michael to his throat specialist and it looks like he is just fine.  Which is a huge relief to me.  Michael gets scratches and bruises every once in a while and I'm learning to deal with those, but I couldn't handle weird white bumps in his throat.
  • Last week we went camping with my dads family.  It was great to see all of them!  Josh and I even got to go on a little 4-wheeler ride.

We are continuing to be really busy.  We are doing a lot of work on our garden (which we planted way too much corn in) at least once a week.  We have had a lot of family camping trips and get-togethers lately.  We are enjoying seeing some of our friends before we move and before some of them move.  I think we are trying to get as much in as we can before school starts again.  We both know that winter break is never really a break, well not sufficient to get over the burnt out feeling, so we are living it up to the fullest!
